0 Find Out if You Are at Risk

Did you have your blood work done and your blood pressure taken at a 9Health Fair? If so, you probably know your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers. This 10 Year Heart Attack Risk Assessment Tool, developed by Framingham Heart study, is a great place to plug those numbers in to see what your risk is of future heart problems. With tools like this and others out there, it is a good reminder to pay attention and take control of your health.

Even though there was a decline in mortality cases from 1998 to 2008, still 1 of every 3 deaths was due to heart disease according to the American Heart Association. Heart disease is the leading cause of death, with more than 2,200 Americans dying each day of cardiovascular disease. That’s an average of 1 death every 39 seconds.

Don’t be a statistic; get regular check-ups, including self-assessments of your diet, blood pressure and physical activity. How are you managing your numbers? Share your progress and thoughts with us on Facebook. You should be able to get the care and information you need to stay healthy and see a doctor when you need to without barriers. Your voice matters, because decisions about your health care are too important to be left to others.
