Summer is in full swing and that means it’s time to be outdoors enjoying the warm sunny weather. It is, however, important to be sun smart and aware of sun related health risks. It is easy to tune out warnings about the sun, but that won’t do our skin any favors.
Too much sun can be damaging, but according to the Mayo Clinic, there are many factors that may increase your risk of skin cancer. Some include: fair skin, a history of sunburns, excessive sun exposure, moles and a weakened immune system. Find out the remaining risk factors and what you can do to prevent skin cancer.
Proper use of sunscreen is extremely important, but 10 to 15 minutes during the early part of the day or early evening without sunscreen will give your body a good dose of much needed Vitamin D. 9Health Fair offers Vitamin D screenings at our spring and fall fairs. Check our websiteoften for dates and locations of a 9Health Fair. Getting the care you need, when you need it, is important. 9Health Fair provides an entry-point to health and we believe you should be able to get follow up care without barriers like high cost or lack of insurance. Make your voice heard on our Facebook page.
