0 Will You Avoid Being One of the Statistics?

We all know that diabetes is an increasing problem in the United States, but how many of us know that diabetes causes more deaths in a year than breast cancer and AIDS combined? According to the American Diabetes Association, two out of three people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke every year due to complications. The good news is diabetes is not contagious. However, genetics are. And, diabetes does not only occur in overweight individuals, but can equally affect those with normal weight as well. So what does it mean for you? Check your family history, see where you stand with respect to physical activity and nutrition, and connect your mind and will to make changes for yourself.

It is never too late to start a healthier lifestyle, yet, the longer you wait, the higher your risk of being part of the alarming statistics. Ask yourself daily: Am I getting enough exercise? Am I eating healthy? How much of my refrigerator is fresh produce and how much of my pantry is whole grain? Does my plate resemble this one?

Will you be one of the statistics? Tell us your strategies and how you empower others to fight against the statistics as well.
